Patrick Meier and Chaske Haverkos, two Cincinnati filmmakers at Eric Mower + Associates (previously Strata-G Communications) recently completed the development of a music video for Los Angeles-based platinum-selling rock band, Eve 6. The band approached Meier based on a recommendation from local indie rock band, Walk the Moon for whom Meier developed a music video last year. A worldwide exclusive look at the Eve 6 video, “Curtain,” is now live on vevo.com. (Disclaimer: This video includes words that may be offensive to some viewers. When Eve 6 front man Max Collins contacted Meier about concepting a music video for “Curtain,” Meier turned to long-time friend and EMA colleague Haverkos to help.
“Since they expressed the desire for a viral video, we landed on a concept that had all the familiar symptoms of one,” explained Meier. “The concept called for a single-shot, single-take technique while the front man for Eve 6 performed and sang the entire song in reverse. This footage was then put in forward motion during post-production, creating a surreal and unnatural visual experience.”
Meier and Haverkos pitched their idea to Eve 6, who instantly loved it, and the duo embarked on an intense two-month collaboration with the band that included storyboarding, location scouting and pre-production, culminating in a four-day shoot in Long Beach, Calif. in early October.
"Patrick and Chaske came to us with a brilliant idea,” said Eve 6 lead singer and bassist, Max Collins. “They have a quiet confidence about them that allowed us to suspend our doubts about the possibility of executing such an ambitious concept. It was such a pleasure to work with these guys and I can't wait for our next opportunity to do so."
The opportunity with Eve 6 is testament to the talent of the EMA video team. In addition to their work in the music world, Meier and Haverkos produce video for clients across the seven EMA offices. With the continuing growth of media rich online content, video has become a growing part of EMA’s offerings, with full in-house capabilities be it for b-to b or broadcast video.
“Patrick and Chaske are a dynamic duo, both talented and fearless,” said EMA Creative Director Tim Quinlivan. “Their energy and creativity help us lift brands to a higher level.”
Eve 6 is a Southern California pop-punk trio, whose meteoric success in the late ‘90s and early millennium ingrained their anthemic radio hits into the fabric of the lives of a whole generation. The band issued the self-titled Eve 6 in 1998, attaining platinum success with hit singles “Inside Out” and “Leech,” the former capturing the no. 1 spot on the Modern Rock charts and crossing over successfully to Top 40 radio. More widespread recognition came with gold-selling sophomore effort Horrorscope (2000), which spawned radio gems “Promise,” “On The Roof Again” and the ubiquitous prom and MTV anthem “Here’s To The Night”. The band’s new album Speak In Code is their fourth full-length release.
